David Fincher directs one of the most intense and absorbing thrillers to hit the big screens this year, with his wonderful adaptation of the best selling novel by Gillian Flynn. This film is pure jaw-dropping, edge of your seat stuff, and fans of the novel will not be left disappointed.
So, what’s it all about you ask? On the morning of their fifth wedding anniversary, Nick Dunne (Ben Affleck) comes home to find the front door open, coffee table in the living room destroyed, and his wife, Amy (Rosamund Pike), nowhere to be found. Like any loving husband he is shocked and upset, and calls the police to file a missing persons report. Under increased pressure from the police and a media circus scrutinising his every move, the focus though soon turns onto him, as the reality of their marriage and Nick’s strange and deceitful behaviour has everyone pointing the finger at him.
The film is more than just a dark and gripping thriller, it is a tale of a modern day marriage, the power and manipulation the mass media has over the people, to twist and turn their opinion. It is beautiful in its own very dark and discomforting way, the way the film is shot, the acting by Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike, as if they were born to do these roles, this film is guaranteed to have you on the edge of your seat, and leave you saying, WTF!
A must see.
